Preparing Your Audition for The Wizard of Oz
updated September 5, 2011
If you are in 5th grade and plan on trying out for The Wizard of Oz, here are some things to consider... -Keep your Saturdays free in January. There will be very important, mandatory dress rehearsals. -The play will take place sometime in the 1st or 2nd week of February. We will let you know as soon as we confirm our dates. There will be 3 shows. -Start practicing your audition song. Girls who want to try out for a main part need to sing "Over the Rainbow." Boys who want to try out for a main part need to sing "If I Only Had a Brain." If you don't want to try out for a main part you can sing anything you want, even "Happy Birthday," or you can try out for a background part and you won't have to sing anything at the audition. -We will give you a script to practice some lines for the tryout. You can't choose which character you try out for. You might want to be the Tin Man and be asked to read the lines for the Scarecrow. If we think you sound good on those lines we might ask you to try some other parts. Be prepared to act out ANY part!
