Second Grade Music One 45 minute session a week Grading system is as follow: M=meets - Meet Expectations N-Needs Improvement Performance consists of a Fall program in November. Rules 1. Raise your hand to speak 2. Be kind and considerate 3. Be an active participant 4. Play instruments when given permission Rewards Paw Pride Consequences Strike 1 - Warning Strike 2 - Behavior sheet sent home to parent Strike 3 - loss of recess Objectives Unit 1 - Review beat/rhythm, quarter note, paired eighth notes, and rest. Review the pitches do, mi, so and la from the musical scale. Review repeat sign, rhythmic ostinato , motivic form. Unit 2 - Continue to work with Unit 1 concepts and learn about phrases. Unit 3 - Introduce tied notes, half note and the pitch re from the musical scale. Unit 4 - Gain more practice with unit 3 concepts. Unit 5 - Introduce first and second endings, slur and the idea of question and answer phrases. Unit 6 - Practice various ostinatos and canons. Introduce half rest, single eighth note and syncopation. Unit 7 - Continue practicing with concepts in unit 6. Unit 8 - Be able to recognize syncopated patterns in songs. Be able to write syncopated rhythm patterns. Unit 9 - Introduce meter in 4 and whole note, dotted half note. Unit 10 - Be able to identify and notate high do.
