First Grade Music
One 45 minute session a week
Grading system is as follows:
M=meets - Meets Expectations
N=Needs Improvement
Performance consists of a play in early March.
Rules:
1. Raise your hand to speak
2. Be kind and considerate
3. Be an active participant
4. Play instruments when given permission

Strike 1 - Warning
Strike 2 - Behavior sheet sent home to parent
Strike 3 - Lose recess time
Objectives
Dynamics - Aurally identify the difference between loud and soft.
Tone Color - Perform rhymes and songs using the proper voice ( speaking or singing).
Tempo - Aurally identify the difference between fast and slow.
Rhythm - Perform the beat and rhythm of various songs. Identify same and different rhythms by ear. Perform rhythms using quarter notes, quarter rests, and paired eighth notes. Practice a 2-beat conducting pattern. Identify repeat sign.
Pitch - Aurally identify the difference between high and low. Perform simple patterns using so, mi, la, and do.
Texture - Perform songs and rhymes with simple steady beat accompaniment.
Form - Aurally identify same and different phrases in songs and rhymes.
Style - Students will perform folk songs and child songs from the United States and elsewhere.
