Civics with Mr. Hamid
This course is designed to provide students with a greater understanding of current and historical events that have led to the development of the Democratic system and the world they live in today. The course begins with English history and is completed with the Civil Rights movements in the 1960’s. A few topics covered in this course are the Bill of Rights, the Presidency, a virtual tour of Washington D.C., the American Revolution, and the Constitution.

Students will view a political cartoon showing a tax collector being tarred and feathered and a political cartoon of the Boston Massacre.
As a visual to reinforce this idea students will view clips from the HBO series John Adams.
Students will answer a series of questions along with the political cartoons and will choose a side (Colonist or British) and explain why the political cartoon of the Boston Massacre and Tarring and Feathering can help or hurt your cause.

Students will view a painting by John Trumbull and make an educated guess as to whether or not such a scene ever existed.
Students will get a quick overview of the 5 man committee put in charge of constructing the Declaration of Independence.
