Modern World with Mr. Hamid
This course is designed to provide students with a greater understanding of historical events that have led to the development of the world they live in today. The course begins with the Middle Ages and ends with the Cold War and modern day Middle East. A few of the topics covered in this course are Feudal systems in the Middle Ages, Industrial Revolutions of European Nations, World War II, Modern Middle East, and so on.

Students viewed Monty Python and the search for the holy grail. Students described how it was a satire of the Middle Ages.

Students will present their family crests.
Students will explain why they chose their specific icon(s) and colors. Students will explain the meanings behind the pictures and colors and finally explain why it best represents their family.

All classes will complete their family crests by cutting out their icons, coloring their shields, and gluing all the material. They will also prepare for their presentations on Friday.

Period 3 will be in the library to begin their Family Crest Project.
Periods 4 and 5 will be in class cutting out their emblems, coloring their crests, and gluing them to their shield/crest.

The purpose of this project is to show students that in a world of illiterate people pictures and colors carry much weight.
Students will also learn how a simple thing such as a picture and color can have a meaning.
Students will also locate items in today's world that are symbols, which we readily understand the meaning to.

Since the last group of students will be on the field trip to Johnson's Pond, we will review what we studied previously in Modern World History.
Those students who have been working on the Family Crest Project will have access to the library and will complete the rest of the project this week in class.

Pyramids

Students will break into several groups and research how the ancient pyramids were built. They will go through a step-by-step process of how the 2 ton blocks were shaped and brought to the worksite, why these massive tombs were built on the west side of the nile, and what objects were placed inside the pyramid with the mummy.

Today we will review the homework assigned over the weekend. Students needed to create a piece of poetry, a political cartoon, or a monument honoring victims of 9/11.
