Curriculum for Intermediate Grades
Weekly reports will keep you up-to-date with your child’s progress, and a pre and post assessment will give you a clear look at the knowledge and skills your child gained through out the program.
Mathematics
*Review and practice of multiplication and division basic facts. (Timed tests will be given on a regular basis.)
*Review and practice of dividing, multiplying, adding, and subtracting larger numbers
*Geometry- calculating area and perimeter, reflections, translations, and tessellations
*Decimal numbers and operations
*Probability and Statistics- combinations, probability, outcomes, graphing data, mean, median, and mode
*Fractions- adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying, and renaming
*Problem solving and algebraic thinking
Language Arts
*Informational Text and Research Skills- strategies for reading expository text, recognizing and using organizational features in expository text, graphic organizers, and note taking skills
*Reading Comprehension- understanding and using antonyms and synonyms, comparing and contrasting, fact vs. opinion, cause and effect, drawing valid conclusions, recognizing and using persuasive vocabulary and techniques
*Figurative Language- understanding figurative vs. literal language, writing and understanding similes and metaphors, use of figurative language in poetry
*Writing Process- prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing
*6 Traits of Writing- Ideas & Content, Organization, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Voice, Conventions
*Creating original creative and informative written works
