In first grade language, we focused on spelling through the use of phongrams. We also focused on mechanics in writing. Students have worked on starting their sentences with capital letters and ending them with the correct punctuation.

In our math class we focused on hands on learning. Students have used manipulatives to solve various kinds of math problems. We met our goal of having students to see that adding and subtracting are related. We have worked on greater than/ less than, adding, subtracting, and patterns.

This year in reading we worked on building a foundation of sounds through the practice of our phonograms. These sounds have helped the students to sound out words that are not familiar to them. Students have engaged in reading groups daily to build their fluency and comprehension. Students should continue to read daily throughout the summer.
