Algebra - Cord Hagedorn
Communication Arts - Mrs. Snodgrass
Welcome To 8th Grade Communication Arts!

What an exciting year! Your student will be the first class to participate in the EMints Grant. We have a brand new Smart Board in the classroom and by semester each student will have a laptop to use for class assignments and activities! I am going to be learning right along with the students and I know that they will be able to teach me a lot about technology!

Your student will be practicing many skills that they have acquired along their academic path and will be adding many new and more in depth skills to help them become more masterful of the English language and literature. Along with reading short stories and novels, students will be writing narratives and short descriptive essays, developing a research paper, and creating powerpoints while exploring symbolism.

I am looking forward to a new year and to developing new relationships with all of the new students! If you have any questions about the upcoming year, please feel free to call or email any time!

Yours truly,

Joan Snodgrass

Dear Parents and Students,

As we enter the New Year, we also start a new semester. We have many things to accomplish yet this year. We will begin the semester by starting a new unit on weather, where students will learn how to collect weather data and interpret weather maps. Students will learn what type of weather is associated with different fronts, such as cold front, stationary fronts, warm fronts and occluded fronts. After we conclude our study on weather we will learn about astronomy. This unit will focus on planetary motion, star evolution, the differences between inner and outer planets and other celestial bodies.

As we begin this new semester we will be receiving our computers in the classroom and we will have a student teacher who will be with us for most of the second semester. Mrs. Billington attended Columbia College where she majored in Biology and science education. Mrs. Billington participated in Science Olympiad when she was in junior high and comes with a variety of experiences that will enrich her experience within our classroom.

We will review concepts for preparation of the MAP test which will be given in the spring. The Science MAP test is a grade span test which will cover concepts taught in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Students will be preparing for high school by creating their 5 year plan with high school counselor in the spring and touring the high school. Students will be taking tests to be placed in certain high school classes so they must remember to maintain their grades so that they can achieve what they want as they prepare for high school. This is not the time of year to become complacent, but a time of year to pick up the pace in learning to ensure that students are ready for entrance into the high school.

It's a parents enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best; and a teacher's ability to teach what they need to learn. Together we can achieve wonderful things. Please feel free to contact me during team time or via e-mail at (ppaul@moberly.k12.mo.us) with any concerns you may have. Thank you for your commitment to your child's education and I look forward to seeing you in the very near future. Have a wonderful year! Sincerely, Mrs. Paul

Social Studies - Ashley Moore
Welcome to 8th grade Social Studies! I am very excited to meet everyone and get the school year off to a great start! This year we will be studying U.S. History beginning with the Civil War and progressing towards the present day. We will take an in-depth look at events in our history such as the Great Depression, World War I and World War II, the Cold War, as well as the changes in American politics. Let's make it a great year, and Go Spartans!
