Click on the link in the class downloads section of this page that says "Virus Project Extra Credit". Make a brochure or posterboard on a virus of your choice. All elements in the project description must be included for extra credit. This will count for up 20 25 points!! What a great way to boost your grade at the end of the marking period (which ends October 29).

Today in class, students will finalize their procedures for their spice lab. By the end of class, all procedures should be finalized in written in each student's lab manual.

My summer plant experiment
October 8, 2009
Students saw the results of a plant experiment I did over the summer, and pointed out all of the flaws in my uncontrolled experiment. After a discussion on variables, students took notes on principles of the scientific method, and a short worksheet was assigned for homework. Link to class notes is below.

Simulation of an Infectious Disease

Mega Multiples of Microbes

Today in class, students did a bean counting activity and were able to estimate the number of beans in a one pound bag and how many bags would be needed to have 1,000,000 and 1,000,000,000 beans. The second part of the activity focused on asexual reproduction of bacteria, and the exponential growth that happens due to doubling of their population every generation.

6 Kingdoms Folded Book Project
September 15, 2009
Students in periods 1, 4 and 5 were assigned a project today which will require research into each of the 6 kingdoms of living organisms: archaebacteria, eubacteria, protista, fungi, plantae and animalia. The finished product will be a hand-made scrapbook, with one page devoted to each kingdom, highlighting key characteristics and representative organisms.
