Welcome to Stockwell Science 2011-2012!
Welcome Biology and Marine Biology students! I have created this site to help you keep track of important due dates and assignments. Although I may not always provide a day-by-day account of class happenings, I will keep links to most of the documents that you receive in class in case you forget or misplace something or are absent. I will also include links to Power Points and web-based videos so that you can view them again.
To find class-related information, click on your class. You may need to browse the "past" to find what you're looking for. Grades may eventually be available on this site.
updated September 5, 2010 Grades will soon be available by clicking on the Grades link. Stay posted... You must use the proper syntax when logging in. Enter "Lastname, Firstname" Capitalize the first letter in your name...
Period 1 Biology 15
Biology is a year-long science course required for graduation from high school. Throughout the year, we will address questions related to living things and how life works. Main units include Characteristics of Life, Chemistry, Infectious Diseases, Cells, Energetics, Cell Division and Cancer, Genetics and Heredity, Ecology and Populations, and Evolution. All units will include one or more required performance tasks for students to showcase their understanding. My job is to make the class as fun, interesting and relevant for you as I can, and to that end I will work tirelessly to help you have an insightful and successful year!
My e-mail is: tstockwell@hamden.org My office hours are: Mon and Tues from 2-3:15, and most other days by appointment.
Period 2 Marine Biology
Marine Biology is a semester-long science elective that exposes students to fundamental concepts about life in various ocean ecosystems. A survey approach is taken, with an emphasis on the relationship between abiotic factors that define each ecosystem and the organisms that live there. Basic concepts on the physical properties of the sea floor, water and currents will be reinforced early on, followed by in-depth studies of ecology and food webs, deep ocean organisms and coral reefs. Throughout the course, conservation issues that threaten the future of the world's oceans will be emphasized through readings and discussions of current events.
Period 5 Biology 19
Biology is a year-long science course required for graduation from Hamden High School. Throughout the year, we will address questions related to living things and how life works. Units include the Characteristics of Life, Chemistry, Infectious Diseases, Cells, Energetics, Cell Division and Cancer, Genetics and Heredity, Ecology and Populations, and Evolution. All units will include one or more required performance tasks for students to showcase their understanding. Students taking Biology 19 will be expected to go above and beyond in demonstrating their level of understanding, and will be required to complete readings and assessments not given to the lower levels, as a means of enrichment. My job is to make the class as fun, interesting and relevant for you as I can, and to that end I will work tirelessly to help you have an insightful and successful year!
