AP Biology
The AP Biology course is designed to be the equivalent of a two-semester college introductory biology course usually taken by biology majors during their first year. After showing themselves to be qualified on the AP Exam, some students, in their first year of college, are permitted to take upper-level courses in biology or register for courses for which biology is a prerequisite. Other students may have fulfilled a basic requirement for a laboratory-science course and will be able to undertake other courses to pursue their majors. AP Biology should include those topics regularly covered in a college biology course for majors. The college course in biology differs significantly from the usual first high school course in biology with respect to the kind of textbook used, the range and depth of topics covered, the type of laboratory work done by students, and the time and effort required of students. The AP Biology course is designed to be taken by students after the successful completion of a first course in high school biology and one in high school chemistry as well. It aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology.

Biology 1
Biology requires reading, comprehension, and study skills. The pace in the course is moderate, and critical thinking is stressed. Students are expected to maintain a grade of “C” or better throughout the year.

Laboratory investigations which include the use of scientific inquiry, research, measurement, problem solving, laboratory apparatus and technologies, experimental procedures, and safety procedures are an integral part of this course.
IB Biology SL
Biologists have accumulated huge amounts of information about living organisms, and it would be easy to confuse students by teaching large numbers of seemingly unrelated facts. In the Diploma Programme biology course, it is hoped that students will acquire a limited body of facts and, at the same time, develop a broad, general understanding of the principles of the subject. Although the Diploma Programme biology course at standard level (SL) and higher level (HL) has been written as a series of discrete statements (for assessment purposes), there are four basic biological concepts that run throughout.

Pre-IB Biology
Pre-IB Biology allows high school students to explore numerous disciplines and approaches used by scientists to understand Life on Earth. The course will emphasize unifying concepts, rather than specific details, and prepare students for future, more in-depth studies of the various topics.

Students will learn basic principles of Chemistry and how they apply to the activities of Cells, and that Cells have evolved to form a variety of unicellular and multicellular Organisms that vary greatly in their complexity. Students will learn how genetic mutations combined with natural selection can result in evolution of Populations. They will study ways in which organisms interact with each other in Communities and Ecosystems, and they will consider the impact of humans on the Environment.

Students will participate in a variety of laboratory exercises that reinforce material presented in the textbook and the classroom.
