SCHUMACHER BIOLOGY
Welcome to Mrs. Schumacher's biology classes. Together I hope we will have a great school year.
Anatomy A
Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the human body. The study of Anatomy will involve the study of the body’s organs and the details of their structure. The study of physiology will involve gaining an understanding of how these organs work. The course will progress through three interrelated terms. These terms are broken down into units of study, which are listed below. Though it is not a requirement to take all three terms of the class, doing so will increase the value of the course to your general knowledge base of how your body works. HAP B requires active involvement in dissection. Cats will be the primary specimen dissected due to its similarity to the human in structure. Various sheep, cow and other mammalian organs will also be dissected to compare to those of the humans.
AP Biology
AP Biology A/B is a college preparatory course taken following general Biology A/B and Chemistry A/B. It is a college level chemistry course that covers the same topics as Biology A/B but with additional emphasis on in-depth problem solving and scientific reasoning. This course provides a challenge for the highly motivated student who possesses a well above average abilities and is considering a science related college major. AP Biology will provide the student with sufficient background to attempt the AP Biology examination.

Biology A/B/C
Biology is the science that studies living things. This course will include laboratory and inquiry work, as these are an essential part of student learning. The course objective is to have the learner understand biological concepts, theories and principles through investigation and analysis of cells, organisms, and ecosystems. Areas of study include: the nature of science, cell theory, mechanisms of heredity, biological change over time, interdependence of organisms, material cycles, energy flow in living systems, human systems, and historical significance of major scientific advances. Biology A is a prerequisite for Biology B.
