Suggestions for preparing for tomorrow's Summer Reading Test:

*Review your notes page and make sure you have copied an important passage from the book
*Think about each question--anticipate possible answers to and/ or thoughts about each question based on your summer reading book
*Review the worksheet, "What constitutes Good Literature," and think about which points you may choose to argue
*Feel confident that you have completed a great amount of practice with the SIX STEP PROCESS and you know how to use it to successfully answer the summer reading questions
"The Circuit" Questions (homework)
Due Date: September 15, 2009
In today's class students successfully answered #1 and #2 of the CAPT-style questions for the story, "The Circuit."

For HOMEWORK---students must answer at least the first three steps of question #3
Six-Step Process (homework)

SIX-STEP process

#1 Main Idea (State the main idea of the response/ use question stem in your answer)
#2 Example (Use examples and evidence fromthe story to support the main idea of the anwer)
#3 Explain the examples (Why are the examples important?)
#4 Generalization (What can be said about people in general, or humanity, or society?)
#5 Connect (Support generalziation with conenction to book, movie, perosnal experience, etc.)
#6 What can be learned? (What life lesson and/or moral does the author suggest?)

Overcoming Challenges
September 4, 2009
In today's class students shared certain challenges they had to overcome in their first week of school. Several students realized that with persistence and good problem-solving skills, they were able to learn their schedule, find their way around the school, get accustomed to waking up early and making a schedule for completing assignments. Great work everyone!
