Morris Upchurch Middle School
WELCOME!
Hi! I'm Rebecca Russell, Morris Upchurch's 8th Grade Science teacher and Calculator coach. This page will give you a brief insight into who I am and information for both science classes and the math and science team.
Me
I have lived in the area my entire life. I am a 1993 graduate of Atlanta High School and 2000 graduate of Texas A&M in Texarkana. My husband, Jeff, graduated from Queen City in 1990 and we currently live in Jefferson. Our families live in the area as well.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, which includes grades 1-8, with an emphasis in Science.

Other things about me: I enjoy being outdoors and I love to read.
Science
Middle School Science covers five main topics which include: Scientific Investigation and Reasoning, Matter and Energy, Force, Motion and Energy, Earth and Space, and Organisms and the Environments. Students will learn in classroom and lab settings with hands-on interactive activities and lessons. Students will be required, by the state, to take a Science assessment (STARR) in April. The STARR test covers Science that has been taught to students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
Math and Science Team
The Morris Upchurch Math is Science Team competes throughout the school year with other local schools. Students compete in Number Sense, General Mathematics, Calculator and Science. The M.U.M.S. team finished the local competitions of the year with an undefeated record.

The Morris Upchurch Middle School Math and Science Team competed at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association State Championship meet on Saturday, April 9, 2011. When all events were totaled, Queen City won the 2nd place sweepstakes trophy finishing behind The Village School, a private school from Houston. The M.U.M.S. team consisted of 26 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, which brought home 35 individual trophies and medals for placing in the top 20 in an event. Four of these were 1st place winners.
