Magazine Cover
November 10, 2009
You will be creating a magazine cover that incorporates a picture of you with a celebrity or celebrities of your choice. You can make it funny or serious. You need to spend some time looking at real magazine covers so you can determine what components go into a magazine cover and how do the publishers set up the layout to grab the reader's attention. Make sure you see the folder with examples. The examples will be posted here after the Thanksgiving Break.

Event Flier
November 5, 2009
Students will create a flier for an event of their choosing. The flier can be for a real or fabricated event. I recommend choosing a subject that you are interested in. For example: If you are part of a sports team or extra curricular club, have your flier showcase a fundraiser or gathering. Another idea is a flier for an upcoming music or theatrical event.

Some guidelines:

-Setting up the document: 11" x 17" at 150 dpi
-Font should enhance the flier, making it easy to read. The audience will know the ideas you are trying to convey.
-Imagery works with theme of the flier. Don't go overboard!!
End of Marking Period
October 30, 2009
Good Morning Everybody-

I'm happy to report I got the OK to return to work on Monday! I am looking forward to seeing you all and getting everything worked out regarding assignments and grades. For today, I would like you to open your work and do a File-->Save As-->jpg for each assignment and then attach them in an email document and send them to me. Those of you that understand the process will need to assist your classmates. I am enclosing a word document to assist. I use Photoshop CS3 at home and you use CS4. I am hoping the procedure is the same.

If you have not worked during my absence, you have made an unacceptable choice. Based on your responses and emails to me, I know that most of you have worked hard to complete the assignments. For those of you who have consistently worked but simply ran out of time, I will work with you to reach an agreeable solution.

At this point, there are simply too many assignments for me to print them all before Wednesday, when my grades are due. I will print your work if you will be taking it home. As I look at the work you will be sending me as attachments in your emails, I will also be asking to print some of the more outstanding pieces. I will not be printing everything.

I look forward to seeing you Monday. Feel free to send any questions or concerns. Look at the attached document for instructions on converting a file to jpg formula.

Have a good weekend.

cd cover tip
October 27, 2009
make sure to start the document with the dimensions of 9.5 x 4.75@ a resolution of 150.

To know where the centerpoint is do the following:

View ----> New Guide ---->select 'vertical and then type in 4.75 in the position space. I am hoping this process is the same for CS$ because I use CS3 at home.

please continue to email me your questions!! see you soon :)

Good Morning!
October 22, 2009
I wanted to let you know I am ok. THANK YOU for your get well messages, questions and concerns. Let me ease your minds.

1) I developed an infection in my leg that required minor surgery. I REALLY can not wait to be back at school but I am not sure when that will be. Let's hope very soon!

2) Your marking period grades will be based on your interim grade plus the additional work I have seen you doing. I would like to include everything through the cd cover in m.p.1's grade. The logo assignment is to be done on the computer mixing fonts and a concept for a business you create. I am working on having your work printed and sent home to me for grading. I promise you all that your grades will not suffer b/c of my illness. I am very proud of the work that the majority of you are producing. Please don't worry!

3)Continue to email me your questions and I will respond. I am still here to help so feel free to email at any time.

Thanks for your concern and understanding. Hope to see you soon!!

Feathering and Opacity
October 22, 2009
Feathering:

An option found when you use the marquee and/or lasso tool. Click on either of those tools and look under the menu bar and you will see "feather". The box will show 0 px, for 0 pixels. You can raise that number to 10. You would never go beyond 15 px. Feathering a part of a picture will give you a smooth, gradual edge rather than a sharp edge. You will also notice some of the paint brushes and erasers are available with a feathered edge. Feather is a great technique to use when you are using layers of pics w/various levels of opacity.

Opacity:

Determines if you can see through an image. Notice in your layers palette there is an area in the top right area tat says "opacity" Move the slider to create a more opaque or translucent (you can see through) layer.

Please play with these two options and incorporate them into your cd covers.
CD Cover
October 16, 2009
In this assignment, you will be creating a cd cover of a fictional band or artist. Your cd will include a title, artist's name, and song titles. Your composition will include an exhibited understanding of 'feathering' and 'opacity'. Please refer to the handouts including the assignment rubric

Week Wrap Up
September 18, 2009
Be sure to save any important work in your documents folder. At the very least, you should have completed the Filter Exercise as well as the handout on the Photoshop terms and concepts. I hope you have created some extra credit work and took notes so that you can explain what you did to create it. Look over the classjump calendar for the week and be sure you have been using your time well.

Have a good weekend and I will see you Monday. Congratulations to the Football team!
Typeface Exploration
September 17, 2009
Students will begin to look at various fonts and typeface styles to gain an understanding of how text/font/type affects a document.

Look at dafont.com to see many different font styles. Within photoshop, create an 8.5 x 11 document at a resolution of 150 dpi and write one word or short phrase all over the document using different fonts, font styles and colors.
September 16, 2009
September 16, 2009
Please use today to finish up any work in progress. I know you have used your class time wisely and will have some interesting compositions to show me. We will be printing the Filter Exercises and some of the extra credit work you have been doing. Do not expect to print every piece you create. On the other hand, there is nothing more exciting than a student who is using their class time to really learn about the program and creates an interesting, exciting composition. Looking forward to seeing what you have been doing! See you all soon-
