I want you to grow in your math skills this year, but I REALLY want you to grow into a whole, happy, successful young man/woman.
I love the quote that says: “The choices you make today build the house you will live in tomorrow.” The only way to achieve your purpose in life is to take small action steps everyday. In the end, they all add up, and you will be enjoying your purpose-driven life.

What do you do when no one is watching? Being honest and honorable when others are watching is important, but being true to yourself even when no one is watching is paramount. Over time, these private day-to-day decisions will eventually reveal your true character to the world.

The Bible commands us to “love our neighbor as we love ourselves.” It takes character to truly accept, forgive, and love yourself, and then it takes more character to put the interests of others before your own interests, which is love in action.

I read a children’s book entitled: How Full is Your Bucket? In the story, Felix begins to see how EVERY interaction in a day either fills or empties his bucket. Felix then realizes that everything HE says or does to other people fills or empties their buckets as well as his own. Each of us has an invisible bucket. Our bucket is filled when others say encouraging things to us, when they include us, when they smile at or acknowledge us, and when they give us their full attention. Buckets in our society seem to be emptied more than they are filled. Walking down our school halls, we hear numerous put-downs, causing many of our peers to try to make it through the day with a nearly empty bucket. What an even more amazing group of accomplished young men and women you will be if you all choose to be bucket fillers. Let’s all make a goal to consciously choose to fill other people’s buckets!

My life challenges to you: Live with no regrets, strive to grow in your character by acting honorable even when no one is watching, walk through each day serving and loving your neighbors, and be a "bucket filler"!
