Effort:
100% effort is required in your behavior and work ethic. In order to be successful in this class, and in life, you should give it all you’ve got. Laziness will not be tolerated! Effort includes asking any and all questions you have. If you need extra help, make the effort to see me and set up a time after school when we can meet.
Academic Honesty:
All work is to be your own. There is to be no copying of other students’ papers or published books, magazines, or websites. Copied work will be given a grade of zero and will result in disciplinary action.
Supplies:
•A three-ring binder
•A pen/pencil (No red pen, please)
•A scientific calculator (Chemistry only)
•Your textbook
Your textbook must be covered to protect it. It will be used for homework primarily. You do not need to bring it to class unless you have been previously instructed to do so. Your binder, pen/pencil, and calculator should be brought to class every day.
Grade:
•30% Homework
•30% Activities
•40% Exams
Exams:
Exams are typically given on academic Fridays. Class notes should be studied for Friday exams.
Homework:
Homework is assigned each and every night. Studying is always part of your homework assignment. Notes completed in class should be reviewed each night for Friday exams.
Written homework is typically assigned ahead of time and due several days later. Students should use the extended time to work on a small chunk of homework each night. Students should not wait until the night before to begin the homework assignment. Unless otherwise instructed, homework should be neat, legible, and written in complete sentences. No papers with fringe will be accepted.
Classroom Expectations:
•Follow directions
•Keep hands and feet to yourself
•Use appropriate language (no put downs, teasing, or swearing)
•Be in your seat and on time with your binder, pen/pencil, and homework
•Treat the furniture and equipment with respect
•No eating or drinking in the laboratory
Consequences for Ignoring Classroom Expectations:
•Verbal warning
•Teacher detention
•A call home
•Referral to Disciplinarian
Late Work:
No late work will be accepted. If you are present on the day an assignment is due, that assignment must be turned in during class that day. Otherwise, the assignment will be graded as a zero. If you are absent, all work that is due during your absence should be turned in the day you return to school, even if this falls during your shop week.
Absences and Makeup Work:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain your makeup work from the appropriate class folder in the classroom. You can do this before, after, or during school time. Makeup work is due one week from the day you return to school. This due date typically falls during your shop week, so make sure the work is turned into me. No late makeup work will be accepted.
