Fifth Grade Science
Fifth Grade Science Message Board
We will have a wonderful time learning science in the fifth grade. All fifth grade students must take the Mississippi Science Test. It will take a lot of hard work but we will be prepared and blow the test away in March!

At the end of the year fifth grade students should know and understand:

1. How to demonstrate an understanding of scientific inquiry using process skills.
2. Understand relationships of the properties of objects and materials, positions and motion of objects, and transfer of energy to explain the physical world.
3. Predict characteristics, structures, life cycles, environments, evolution, and diversity of organisms.
4. Develop an understanding of the properties of Earth materials, objects in the sky, and changes in Earth and sky.

If you did not finish you conversions in class from you measurements of your pumpkin you need to finish that for homework.

We will continue with our study of the Metric system. This week students will determine how much popcorn it will take to fill our classroom (measure the classroom and determine how they will tell how much popcorn will fill it) and investigate a pumpkin (weigh measure the pumpkin, weigh and convert the "guts" of the pumpkin, estimate and count the number of seeds, and explore the cells contained in the pumpkin under a microscope).
