| We have many math SOL's in first grade. We learn different ways of counting and number sense. Addition and subtration facts are a large part of our math class. First graders learn to tell time and how to count money. We learn many different ways to solve problems. Learning different stratigies is important for young students. We will also learn about geometry and fractions. Click on the math link to find out just what we are studying at this time! |

| With the begining of the new semester, we are still working with addition and subtraction facts. Trying to recall them quickly is a way your child can be successful in math. Our new chapter is geometry and fractions. We will learn about 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. These are shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, spheres, cubes, cones, retangular prisms, and cylinders. Our fractions will be 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4. We will talk about dividing sets and shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths. Look for shapes and fractions around your house and talk about them with your child. Remember, math is ongoing and we will continue working with everything we have learned so far! |
