Fun In First Grade!
First grade is such an exciting time in a child's life! In our class we work hard to make a community where we all get along and help each other to do their very best!

Welcome to my classroom! I am so happy to have you here! My name is Susan Kilby and I have been teaching for 27 years! I have taught lots of girls and boys, some of them might have been your brothers, sisters, or even your moms or dads! Wow, I sure am old! I enjoy teaching and getting to know all of my students each year. I really find it hard to let them go in the spring but, I know they have to move on without me! We have some great times in our classroom. We learn that everyone has something special they can share with the others. We take the time to listen and help our classmates. My favorite saying is "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!"

Reading
We are a Reading First School. For the week of November 5-9, we will begin our third book of our series. Our story this week is called "Stan's Stunt". Can you do a stunt or a trick? Stan, the skunk, can but his friends are afraid to let him.

We are continuing to learn about all kinds of blends. We will continue to work with all the short vowels along with the diagraphs sh, th, and ck. Your child should have a story to read each night in their red homework folders inside of their colorful 'briefcases'. Please take the time to listen to your child read whenever you can. Encourage them to read with expression. Have fun with reading and make it an enjoyable time for you and your child. Remember, they grow up all too soon!
