READING: Students are divided into four groups by ability level. The groups are blue, red, green, and yellow. Students will have a reading assignment EVERY Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. Please set with your child while they read this aloud to you. Remind them that they should be finger pointing and tracking as they read.
SIGHT WORDS: Students will also be working on sight words. These are words that your child should be able to glance and and automatically know. They should not be sounding them out. Please review over their sight words with them each night. Remember to review the old ones, along with the new ones.
WRITING: We concentrate on correct letter formation in their writing. If your child is writing something with you, remind them to use the correct strokes. They will understand. Students should also work on writing sentences using a capital letter at the beginning and punctuation at the end.
SPELLING: Students are divided into two groups, purple and orange, by their spelling level. I have sent a sheet home on ways to help your child learn their words for the week. These should be practiced EVERY night to ensure that students LEARN the words and don't just MEMORIZE them for the test. |
