| Welcome Parents, Guardians, and Students |
PARENTS: The website is now current. Homework will be posted starting tomorrow.
I would like to take this time to welcome everyone. It is my hope that this website will help with communication between home and school. It is essential to each and every student's learning that we all work together closely. With this website you should be able to access any information you need about class. Some things include: Homework Assignments, Upcoming Events and Projects, and Pictures of the Students involved in projects and activities. If you have any questions please contact me by clicking on the Email link at the left. With this you can send an email straight to my school account. If you would like to receive an email stating that new information has been posted to the website click on the Subscribe for Updates link at the left. Thank you for all of the help, hard work, and dedication that each of you give to your sons and daughters.

History and Science are taught every six weeks, but not each every week. For the first three weeks we will learn something about history. For the second three weeks we will learn someting about science. This helps keep the students from getting confused with all the information.
In history we will have units George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington Carver as well as the American Flag, bald eagle, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty, and the Pledge of Allegiance. We will also discuss holidays and their importance. Students will learn how to read and use a map and time lines, and understand how location and climate affect how people live. They will learn aboout money, goods, services, wants, and needs.
In Science we will have units on the different kinds of motion, how different materials interact with water, and natural resources. Students will learn the needs of plants and animals, the basic parts of a plant, and characteristics of plants and animals. We will discuss the sun, day and night, and how climates affect plants and animals.
I will place information about the unit on this site each time we switch units.

Students will learn many new things in math this year. We will practice skip counting, time, and counting money. Students should be able to add and subtract numbers up to ten. They will learn shapes and basic fractions. Please use everyday situations to work with your child on the above things. This will help math become more real instead of "just something they have to do at school."

READING: Students are divided into four groups by ability level. The groups are blue, red, green, and yellow. Students will have a reading assignment EVERY Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. Please set with your child while they read this aloud to you. Remind them that they should be finger pointing and tracking as they read.
SIGHT WORDS: Students will also be working on sight words. These are words that your child should be able to glance and and automatically know. They should not be sounding them out. Please review over their sight words with them each night. Remember to review the old ones, along with the new ones.
WRITING: We concentrate on correct letter formation in their writing. If your child is writing something with you, remind them to use the correct strokes. They will understand. Students should also work on writing sentences using a capital letter at the beginning and punctuation at the end.
SPELLING: Students are divided into two groups, purple and orange, by their spelling level. I have sent a sheet home on ways to help your child learn their words for the week. These should be practiced EVERY night to ensure that students LEARN the words and don't just MEMORIZE them for the test.
