Welcome to Mr. Murphy's US History and Government Class!
Why Study History?

"The first step in liquidating a people is to erase its memory. Destroy its books, its culture, its history, then have somebody write new books, manufacture a new culture, invent a new history. Before long the nation will begin to forget what it is and what it was. The world around it will forget even faster."
-Milan Kundera, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting

“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”
- George Santayana

"People are trapped in history, and history is trapped in them".
-James Baldwin

I hope you find this website beneficial to you. It has all the study guide notes for each unit I use throughout the year.

Regents US History and Government 11
This page is dedicated to helping students find success in Mr. Murphy's class as well as preparing them for their Regents exam in June.

United States History and Government focuses on American History from the discovery of the Americas to present day. It also includes an overview of American Government. The Constitution and the workings of government are key to this section. The course places emphasis on reading, group activities and research work. United States History and Government requires the student to take a New York State Regents exam at the end of the course. They must pass the exam and the course in order to qualify for a Regents diploma.

CURRENT UNIT-

Washington,Adams and Jefferson

HVCC Honors Interpretations of American History I and II
This course like its Regents counterpart focuses on the New York State standards of 11th grade Social Studies. The students are expected to pass the Regents exam at the end of the year. This two-part course provides higher level students the opportunity to obtain college credit at Hudson Valley Community College. It is an extremely challenging course requiring extensive reading. The students must take part in class discussions and group activities. They must take a final exam along with a Regents exam.
