| Music at Cooke |
We offer exciting, interactive music instruction that utilizes computers, Orff musical instruments, Kodaly rhythm training, Dalcroze movement, and proper vocal training. We also offer chorus and strings in fifth grade. For further information call Mr. Burke at (757) 648-2320 ext. 56520 or e-mail him at maburke@vbschools.com.
String classes are offered to all fifth grade students and are taught by Miss Collins. They have the choice of learning to play the violin, viola, or cello. No previous instrumental experiences or note reading skills are required, and instruments may be rented from local music stores at very reasonable rates. Students meet Monday and Wednesday mornings at 8:40 A.M. for 45 minutes of beginning string instruction. Our goal is to perform several pieces of music at the winter and spring concerts and have fun at the same time.
Chorus at Cooke includes Fifth Grade students and gives two school concerts a year in the winter and in the spring. We learn proper use of the singing voice and self-discipline. Our main purpose is to represent Cooke at special school PTA functions and at certain community events throughout the year. We meet on Thursdays at 3:00 P.M. until 4:30 PM with bus transportation provided.
Have a musical year!
