WebQuests: A New Addition to Our Classes
updated May 6, 2009
Hello English classes! We are going to be trying something new this semester. We will be using WebQuests to assist us in exploring literature at an even higher level. WebQuests are designed to lead us through a process of research, synthesis, and presentation. They are pretty self-explanatory, but feel free to e-mail me or ask me in class about any questions you may have about your project.

American Literaature: You all are going to be completing a WebQuest about the period of American Realism. Get ready to do some interesting research and get creative! Just click on the link to get started!

English 101: You all will split up into groups of 4 and complete this WebQuest about Edgar Allan Poe--perhaps one of the most fascinating writers of American History. You will be putting together a program for a play about a work written by Poe. You will have to research one of his poems or short stories, his life, and anything else that would have influenced his writing. The WebQuest includes much more specific instructions and also supplies you with a list of links to sites that will be very useful when you are doing your research and learning about Poe.

Literary Criticism: In class, we are going to be reading The Power of One. After we are finished, we will be completing a WebQuest which will explore different types of literary criticism. You are going to break up into small groups, and each group will research a different type. You will be putting together a PowerPoint to present your research to the rest of the class and describe how that particular type of research relates to the novel. If you need assistance creating PowerPoint, here is a useful tutorial about making one.

To help you better organize your online research, I highly recommend using a social bookmarking site. My personal favorite is Del.icio.us. Once you learn how to use it, it is very straight-forward. Basically, it allows you to bookmark any websites you want and then access them from a computer anywhere with Internet access. Click here to learn how!
Good luck everyone!
