We are going to continue practicing our reading strategies and learn test taking skills. By February we will begin to have students work on their weekly Reading assessment independently. This means that we will no longer read the assessment to them. We will still do a review, but we encourage the students to bring home their books on Thursdays to study because we will not be discussing the test questions and answers during the review.
As we finish up our animal reports this month we will begin moving into Functional Writing. This will include things such as creating a letter to someone, addressing an envelope, making a grocery list, writing a recipe, and giving directions.
We will also be taking our formal assessment in Math very soon! We need to make sure that the students know their addition and subtraction facts. We will be moving on to our next unit on Shapes, Halves & Symmetry. This is a unit that lays a foundation for the students in geometry.
Science will also be teaching us all about the weather! We will also be planting and growing bean plants in the classroom. It should be a lot of fun!
