English with Ms. Shaw
Welcome to high school English, everyone! My name is Ms. Shaw and I am very excited to be working with you this year!

Students, let me first tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Purdue University in 2010 with a BA in English Literature and from Valparaiso University in 2011 with a MED in Initial Licensure. I love English: reading, writing, analyzing, you name it! I also appreciate all genres of literature including fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, fantasy, poetry, drama, journalism, and graphic novels. I hope that, by the end of the year, you will learn to love at least one of the many genres that we will explore! Aside from reading and researching the texts, we will be producing our own films in Core 40 and Advanced Placement English classes using The Grammar of TV and Film and looking into interesting words using the Etymology Dictionary. We will be finding inspiration at The Taltree Arboretum in Creative Writing class. This is not your typical, boring English course, kids!

Parents, I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. You are welcome to call with questions or concerns at any time. You are also welcome to join in on field trips and student shows taking place this year! I hope there will be many opportunities for you to see the progress that your child is making during his/her first years of high school!
