We are starting the fourth quarter and I hope that it is the best yet!
It has been a long stretch since Christmas Break and I know that the kids are all looking forward to Spring Break but we need to stay focused so that we can wrap all the things that need to get done before the school year ends -- and that will happen before we know it!
Please encourage your son or daughter to pay particular attention to the assignments that are given. Failure to follow instructions seems to be a common theme right now in why some students are doing so well.
I am looking forward to the rest of the year with your students and I hope that we can begin the end of the year on the right track for everyone!

We are using a website called Edmodo to learn how to create class discussion threads (like many college professors do for their classes). Students are given a topic on the edmodo site and then "discuss" it through posts. They must sign up for the site using the following information.

After they log in, they should look for the post that I put on there and then create a post of their own answering it. Once I let them know there is one there, they have 48 hours to post their own reply.

This class looks at the five themes of geography and how they affect the world as a whole. We take a closer look at the these five themes during the first half of the year and then apply them to various world regions during the second half. Students must have a 3-ring binder with three tabs and a pocket folder for this class. The pocket folder can (and I would prefer it) be the kind that fits into the binder as this is where students will gather information throughout the year for their end of year project.

This class focuses on writing, editing and photographing for publication in the school's newspaper and school newsletter, as well as assisting with publicity for school events. All students are requried to contribute to the class newspaper in some way. Students are required to keep a portfolio of their work for submission as their final "project" at the end of the year. This can be as simple as a tabbed folder with page protectors for all articles, photographs and advertisements or as professional as an actual zip-closed portfolio. Students will not be graded on the appearance of the portfolio, only on the content within it.
