Welcome to Mrs. Watson's English II Honors class!

I look forward to working with each student and parent to make this school year a successful one, and hope that you will learn comunication and critical thinking skills that will be beneficial as you work toward graduation.

Students will complete their fouth quiz of the second six weeks, which includes Hunger Games chapters 10-12, text structures, and grammar that we've done in class this week.

Students will create Hunger Games analogies after their quiz.

Today, students will read through HG chapters 11-12 and complete their study guide that goes with those chapters. Students should get the majority of this done in class. Whatever they do not finish is homework. Study for tomorrow's quiz!

Hunger Games--Chapter 10

Today is an early dismissal day. We will, however, have time to read through chapter 10 of the Hunger Games in class.

If students did not complete and turn in both the text structures packet and the paragraph they were supposed to write, it is due as soon as they come into class tomorrow. The paragraph assignment is attached to today's calendar. The text structures packet is attached to yesterday's calendar.

EOC Writing Benchmark

All RCS students grades 9-11 will take the EOC writing benchmark today. This is the first of 3 writing benchmarks that we'll have between now and January.

Students will complete their weekly quiz, which will include reading comprehension, grammar, theme, characterization, and setting questions.

Today, we will discuss theme and the importance of setting in the novel.
Students will complete their first two "chatter" reading journal entries, and should complete chapter 2-3 packet and study for their quiz that is scheduled for Friday.

Today, we will be focusing on characterization and the rising conflict of Katniss's selection for the Hunger Games. Chapter 1 packet should be completed, and we got about halfway through chapter 2. Chapter 2-3 packet is attached, as is the reading journal assignment for this unit.

Hunger Games--Chapter 1

Students will read the first chapter of Hunger Games and complete their packet that goes with it. Their packet includes reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and EOC skills for each chapter. EACH CHAPTER'S PACKET MUST BE COMPLETED DAILY, EITHER IN CLASS OR AS HOMEWORK.

Today, we will be reading selected passages of Aristotle's "Causes of Revolution" and the Declaration of Independence, and discussing the theme of "revolution" in small groups.

Please note that students will be assigned a small group to work with for the duration of this novel unit.

Notebook Check #2/Quiz #4
September 8, 2011
Today, students will turn in their second notebook check. They should have: 7 bell works since Aug. 23, Allusion/Symbolism Notes, Point of View notes, "Lamb to the Slaughter" notes, and "By the Waters of Babylon" notes. This check is worth 100 points, which is equal to a test grade. ALL notes must be complete for full credit.

Students will have a quiz over "By the Waters of Babylon," bell work grammar, allusion, symbolism, POV, and irony. (All quizzes/tests are cumulative.)
