Spanish 1
This course will provide students with an introduction to the Spanish language by practicing a variety of vocabulary topics and grammatical structures. Students will also learn about different countries and cultures. Students will engage in reading, writing, listening and speaking on topics such as the following: introducing/describing oneself, school activities and subjects, shopping for school supplies, clothing and food, ordering food at a restaurant, pastimes with family and in the home, sports, hobbies, geography, countries and cities.

Grading: 

 20% Listening

20% Reading

20% Speaking

20% Writing

20% Culture and Connections

Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing Exams will be a summative assessment of lesson 1 and 2 of each unit studied. There will be approximately 2-3 unit summative exams per trimester.

Trimester 1 = Preliminary, Unit 1, Unit 2

Trimester 2 = Unit 3, Unit, 4, Unit 5/Lesson 1

Trimester 3 = Unit 5 Lesson 2, Unit 6, Unit 7

The Culture and Connections category consists of on-going formative assessments to evaluate what the student has learned in preparation for the summative unit exams. This may include participation points for daily oral proficiency questions, homework assignments, and lesson quizzes on vocabulary and grammar.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ENTERED INTO INFINITE CAMPUS BASED ON A 100% SCALE.

The Spanish Department uses the 833 grading scale. Extra credit is not offered. The student's grade is based on their proficiency in the 4 language areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A comprehensive assessment will be given at the conclusion of each trimester. All missing assessments and work must be completed two days before the end of the trimester or the score will remain zero.

3. Avancemos Spanish textbook and workbook

Recommended Supplies:

1. Spanish/English Dictionary

2. 1 flash drive

3. 1 pack of notecards

 

Spanish 2
This course will provide students with an opportunity to expand their skills in the Spanish language by practicing both the present and past tenses. Students will engage in reading, writing, listening and speaking on topics such as the following: vacations,sports, daily routines, clothes and shopping, legends, preparing and describing food, ordering in a restaurant, movies, and family.

Required Supplies:

1. pen/pencil

2. 3-ring binder; loose leaf paper
