Hello!
My name is Sara Ouren and this is my sixth year as a first grade teacher at Columbian Elementary in Carthage, Missouri. After graduating from the University o f Northern Iowa with a double degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, I moved to Missouri in August of 2006. I moved from the wonderful corn grown state of Iowa. My family lives in a small town of Brooklyn, Iowa. My husband works at Probation and Parole. We enjoy our black and tan dachshund named Koko. I also enjoy spending time at the lake, landscaping, and being with family. My husband and I are very excited to live in Missouri. Everyone has welcomed us with warm wishes and southern hospitality. I am excited to have recently graduated with my Masters in Elementary Education!

These are two charts that your child will be practicing everyday in school. The Alphabet chart helps with sound recognition. The Blends chart helps the students by blending the sounds to form words.

Behavior Expectations
Everyday when your child walks into the room they can make a choice either to have a purple, yellow, blue, or red day.
*A purple day means that your child is exceeding classroom expectations.
*A yellow day means your child is meeting classroom expectations.
*After two warnings the student will change their light to blue if they are not following directions or meeting classroom expectations.
*If a student is still not following directions they will change their light to red. The student will fill out a red light form and take it home to have a parent sign and bring it back the next day.
All students start on the color yellow everyday. If they receive a blue light students will owe five minutes of recess. If a student receives a red light they will owe all of their recess.
