I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!
Looping
I am very excited for the opportunity to loop this year with your children. There are many positives to sharing two years with students. Please click on the looping link to read the following articles for more information if you are interested.

5th grade Social Studies
5th grade social studies focuses on U.S. History. The units that we will cover are Native American Land and Cultural Regions, Colonial America, Revolutionary War, U.S. Government, and the U.S. Civil War. We will also spend time focusing on Iowa History.

We are starting our next unit this week.  We will be learning about the Civil War.  The students will be learning the key events that led to the Civil War and how it affected the United States citizens.

This week we will be focusing on the battle of Gettysburg.  The students will learn the differences between the Union and Confederate soldiers.  They will also be participating in a "walking tour" through Gettysburg to see what different aspects of war were like for each side of the army.  We will be learning about the surrender of General Lee this week as well.  On Friday we will be talking about the Reconstruction effort as well.

5th grade Science
Science in fifth grade incorporates the standards of physical science, earth science, and science as inquiry. We will be using science notebooks in class where the students will use their notebooks as a science journal just like an actual scientist does! They will leave them in the classroom and will have all of their activities and vocabulary at their hands at all times during class.

The unit we will work on this week is part of our Health unit.  We will be learning about what both boys and girls will be experiencing as they mature and enter adolescence.  We will be having a short quiz on Friday over the information that the students will learn this week.

Problem Solving WS due on Friday!
