Welcome to 2E!
Sunday, April 22, 2012 On Friday, your child should have brought home a packet explaining our 2nd grade Biography Unit-part of which is to be done at home. The at-home part needs to be returned on Monday, April 30th. The children may choose someone special to interview, we will use that information to create an informative writing about that person-and what makes him/her special. This activity is very rewarding for the students and results in a memorable keepsake about that "special" person. The packet includes questions but feel free to add any information you think is appropriate. Spring conferences begin on Tuesday...see you there! Make sure you stop by to see the biography book reports on display outside our classroom (we will be taking pictures this week to be posted on this website). Important dates: April 24-27 Parent/Teacher Conferences. April 30 Biography at-home interview due date. May 04 Plant Sale Friday, May 1:30 May Memorial Day Break May 25, 28, & 29. June 05 American Symbol Project is due. More information will be provided first week of May. June 15th. This is the anticipated date of our 2nd grade picnic & our American Symbol Museum. Parents, family, and friends are invited to attend both. Homework No calendar will be created for April. In addition to the biography interview, students will have spelling, vocabulary, and math practice activities that I will send home each evening. Students should be reading each night for at least 20 minutes to improve fluency. Please feel free to take turns reading aloud with your child. New Math Website...use this whenever your child has Math homework or for extra practice http://www.helpingwithmath.com/ I have begun awarding Math A+ awards for students that meet the criteria for "Exceeding Expectations" in our district wide math program. In order to achieve this award, students must show mastery of 95% out of 100 math facts (through 20 ) in addition and subtraction timed assessments. To achieve "meets expectations", students must achieve 85% out of 100 math fact timed assessment. We practice math facts during our class day, but in order for children to improve their recall speed, they must practice at home. Please help your child prepare for third grade...they must have speedy recall of these math facts to be successful in third grade. Our Flat Selves are a great success! The students are having a great time tracking our travels...some all the way to India! This activity will continue through April, so please continue to send them out as quickly as you can. Thank you for attending our play...the kids were fantastic! Please note that parents are invited to sign up to have lunch with their children from now until the end of the year. Number of parents allowed each day are limited, so please contact Mrs. Ireland (office) for more information. . math4kids.com
