Please review spelling words for our test on Friday. Spelling words are sent home on Mondays. Your child should also be taking their reading book, Hidden Surprises, home at least once a week to read their story of the week to an adult. Vocabulary words that go with the story are in your child's journal. They are to be taken home each week to practice. We have a comprehension test over the story of the week and vocabulary test each Friday.

Try to have your child read a least 20 minutes every night. It is very important that they are reading chapter books.

We are currently learning how to compare, order, and round numbers to help students gain a better understanding of whole numbers.

We are currently working on Unit 1, What is a Community? in Social Studies.

Skills Iowa


This year we will be using a web-based program called Skills Iowa. This program can help to increase your child's skills in math, reading, and language arts. There are pretests that will help identify areas of weakness and will help build those skills. The program also has the capability to teach new material and advance those students who are ready for more than grade level material.
Directions for students and parents
1. Sign on to the computer as you normally would
2. Click on the internet
3. Go to ac.corek12.com (no www)
or
go to the Mason City Community Schools Home Page and click on student portals and then select Skills Iowa
type in user name and password ( all the students know these as we have used Skills Iowa during classtime)
Click on the words Skills Tutor on the left side of the screen. Choose Reading A or Math A and do the next recommended activity. If your child has completed all of those activities begin Basic Math or Vocabulary activities. If you have any questions email or call me for more information.
