AP Literature - first period
AP English Literature and Composition is a year-long course which requires an end-of-year examination to assess whether a student has met the expectations of a course the student would otherwise be required to take in college. This examination requires the students demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of literature along with the finesse in writing commensurate with a college-level student. Students will be expected to read nightly and review classroom notes and essays. This course requires close reading of novels, extensive note-taking, literary analysis to build the academic vocabulary of a college student, contextual analysis to interpret social, historical and cultural influences, comparative writing, and the ability to interpret and cite primary sources. My classroom will be a place where students are encouraged with work individually, cooperatively, and whole group to experience and enjoy literature, not as an academic chore, but a vibrant workshop with real-world ties.

Class of 2015 AP ENGLISH LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION
This course focuses on the AP examination and IB assessment. It is imperative that YOU DO NOT READ OUTSIDE SOURCES TO HELP YOU interpret the literature this summer. This is considered PLAGIARISM by the International Baccalaureate Program. You must complete IB assessments on both A Doll House and "Master Harold" ...and the boys. The originality of thought is highly valued in scoring. Once you've read someone else's interpretation, yours is gone!

I am putting a rubric for a fun poster project for you all to complete individually. I am available for questions!

To help you get started:

IB English III/AP Literature is a class with two different assessments: IB English and AP Literature. Both curricula are designed to meet the goals of two compatible programs. AP Literature is a year-long course which requires an end-of-year examination to assess whether a student has met the expectations of a course the student would otherwise be required to take in college. This examination requires the students demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of literature along with the finesse in writing commensurate with a college-level stu- dent. Students will be expected to read nightly and review classroom notes and essays. This course also includes two IB assessments - the Literary Commentary and the Oral Presentation. Both AP and IB require close reading of novels, extensive note-taking, literary analysis to build the academic vocabulary of a college student, contextual analysis to interpret social, historical and cultural influences, comparative writing, creative writing, and the ability to interpret and cite primary sources. The Oral Presentation requires students to study and present literary elements in poetry, prose, and drama. To support students in their endeavor, I will facilitate learning through after school tutorials, nightly communication via classjump.com/mmcadams and daily interaction in the classroom. My classroom will be a place where students are encouraged with work individually, cooperatively, and whole group to experience and enjoy literature, not as an academic chore, but a vibrant workshop with real-world ties.
