Welcome!
Welcome to my classjump website! The purpose of this site is so you can follow the events / assignments of our class if you happen to miss school, misplace a document, or are unsure of any assignment specifics. This website is also helpful for parents because they can view what we are doing in class, homework, and major assignment/project due dates. I look forward to working with you all this year!
Issues in Contemporary Literature
This class investigates changing and controversial social and moral issues in 21st century. Students examine the prevailing social and moral standards in selected novels, poems, short stories, non-fiction and films / documentaries. Some of the literature we read and documentaries we view in class contain mature content (violence and sexuality) due to the nature of the issues being studied. The units of study include minority studies, mental illness, poverty, war, sexism, abuse, homophobia, homelessness and ethnocentricity.
Some of the questions we will explore are: 1) What are issues found in contemporary literature and society? 2) How does the culture of power affect the individual? groups? 3)How does society affect literature and how does literature affect society?
