Welcome to my class website!
I wear many hats at SSMS. I teach our students with dyslexia and run our journalism department.
SSISD uses the MTA (multisensory teaching approach) program to help our students better understand the phonological rules of our language. This program uses a systematic introduction of: letters and sounds, reading and spelling rules, syllable division, and irregular words. There are 7 kits in the program, and it should take about 4-6 years to complete the program. Our journalism program consists of CatPride Yearbook and Eye of the Cat, which is a television news show that is written, shot, and edited by our students. This website will give the parents of my dyslexia students some great links and update what the journalism department is up to. Feel free to email me with any questions at mblackmon@ssisd.net.
