This course will be organized throughout the year into several units. Each unit has an overriding theme which guides the study and material selection throughout instruction. This class serves as a bridge between those exiting the READ180 Program and a regular English class.

English instruction in the tenth grade is organized throughout the year into four units. Each unit has an overriding theme which guides the study and material selection throughout instruction. Unit 1 is short stories and the narrative essay. Unit 2 is Shakespeare. Unit 3 is persuasion. Unit 4 is research and To Kill a Mockingbird.

English instruction in Holocaust Literature is organized throughout the year into several units. Each unit has an overriding theme which guides the study and material selection throughout instruction.

•Unit One: The focus of this unit will include short stories and poems; analyzing authors’ choices and use of literary techniques – we will also be focusing on personal narrative style.

•Unit Two: The focus will be on the anchor text Seed of Sarah by Judith Magyar Isaacson. We will be analyzing for theme and use of literary techniques.

• Unit Three: The focus of this unit will be on the anchor text Maus by Art Spiegelman. We will be analyzing theme and non-linguistic representation as it is a graphic novel.
