Welcome to 2nd grade
I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and exploring with your child. During the school year we will utilize many different concepts that will benefit all. I hope you will all take advantage and read "Laura's Locker Newsletter" to keep updated on different ideas and events that are happen in the classroom.This is a separate area on the site that I will be updating with information bi-weekly for parents. This is were you will find the newest topics that we are going to discuss and learn in the class. Students will learn the importance of physical fitness and the the pride in interactive sports.I will provide a link called Log in Daily in which students to share information with friends and family at home.
Snap playground and Playground equipment would be awesome for our children!
Bowling ball ramp is a great outlet for teachers as well as parents to keep all your students active during this unit.
Balls with bells adds a great heads up for any student. This is the perfact way for the visually impaired students to join in the fun at home or school.
We are going to use cross word puzzles and word searches while we learn about our bones and other health related topics. The students will learn how to locate nutritional facts on food products and learn exercises you can practice at home. In promoting nutrition as well as physical activity I hope to encourage children in their own wellness program. One of our activities that we will be using at home is the food pyramid.
During Heatlth class we will look into different web-sites and explore the effects that nutrition actually has on our body.Breakfast 1st,pick your cereal, and Fueled 4 Fun will be used in reflecting the knowledge throughout the year.

Due to the growing number of obese children in the United States I want to find a fun way for the students to make some healthy choices in their diet and expand their math skills as well. One of the websites that we will be getting information from is Big Math and Fries. This will enable your family to join in the fun of our classroom when you are dining out.
We will become a scientist,exploring and using our bodies as our labratory. Every good scientist needs a laboratory to do his work in and what better place than our own bodies. Neat-o Game is one of the sites that parents and students will be able to take advantage of at home together. During a one week period we will track the students activity with a pedometer. During this time we will measure to activity of the students verses the actuall calories comsumed.The Brain Muscle Workout has nutritional facts that teach us about fuel for our bodies.
Throughout the year I will list different tools that parents and I can use together to make your child's year a great success.
Mouserobics introduces students to computers in the classroom.
Games are wonderful to use , especially when your needing help keeping this new.
Meet the Royal Food Family introduces wellness into the classroom but also make connections to core classes such as;science and math.
Math links and Instructional math is another way for the students to have fun learning math.
