The genre of writing our class is working on is persuasive writing. We read the story "I Wanna Iguana" by Karen Kaufman. It told the story of a young boy convincing or persuading his mom to allow him to have an iguana as a pet. The mom was in turn persuading the son that he didn't need it. This sparked our creativity and the students are currently writing a piece where they have to convince someone to allow them to have a new pet. Writing conventions are still a priority. We are continually working on sentence structure, using capital letters and punctuation appropriately, and adding details to engage the reader.
