Hi Families, There is a lot going on in second grade! Please read the following reminders and information carefully :) This week is "homecoming week" at JKH Elementary. Tomorrow students will have the opportunity to have their picture made with the bulldog. This will happen from 7:30-8:15 in the library. Pictures will be delivered on Friday afternoon. Speaking of deliveries, please remember that the Elementary does NOT accept homecoming deliveries. If you are planning on a gift for your child, you will need to give it to them at home. That is a school-wide policy. I am in the process of setting up parent conferences. I have not set the date, but if you have a time of day that is best for you, please email me and let me know. If you need me to stay after school and meet with you, I have certain days that I am able to do that. The book fair is going on all week (through Friday at lunch). I hope you've had a chance to come eat lunch with your child and buy books. If not, please do. The money the school makes buys new books for our library. We need to notify the cafeteria if you will be eating cafeteria food, so please send us a note :) The Spelling list looks different this week. There will no longer be a spelling list that looks like tablet paper. That was just to get the students used to writing their heading and putting their words in the proper place. We did that for six weeks and students should be comfortable writing their heading. Please remind them to put the heading on every homework paper! From now on, they will only get the typed sheet. Also, ABC "box" papers will not be sent home on Mondays unless your child picks one up. Many students are comfortable with ABC order and no longer need them. If your child still needs one, that is perfectly fine, and I've shown them where to pick them up. They are WELCOME to use those, but again I am grading the tablet paper. I had a few students who came in today thinking they didn't get the spelling list. I explained last week that the list would no longer look like tablet paper. So, it seems that some of my friends were not paying attention, as I explained it in GREAT detail, showing them what this week's looked like. Also, please remember that the spelling list is also always available at the bottom of this web page as well :) Progress reports come home this Thursday. We are all adjusting to this new reading curriculum. The spelling words are much easier, but the content is a bit more challenging. Please don't panic. We are finding the same situation on every grade level. We will all get used to the new testing style and we all want your child to be successful :) I look forward to meeting with everyone soon (if we haven't met already).
