4th & 5th Grade
We are currently finishing a soccer unit and will soon be testing the students on dribbling skill. Many have bettered their eye/foot coordination through this unit.
We were finally able to finish their first fitness test(mile run). It took us longer this year because of the rainy and cold weather. All of the students worked very hard during this test with some very good results and improvement. Please look at the posting for the top 10 times for boys and girls.
General Information
Please welcome our student teacher to Hoover. His name is Mr.(Zach) Etter. He comes to us from Waldorf College. He will be at Hoover up to our Christmas break.
All students are expected to wear tennis shoes and socks to every class. It is a good idea to send an extra pair of socks to school to keep in their locker. Girls should have a pair of shorts in their locker for days they wear a skirt/dress. When your child needs to be held out of physical education, please send a note explaining the situation.
Kindergarten
We start are year by working on different locomotor skills(running, jogging, galloping, skipping, etc.). We will also be helping them identify and learn their basic body parts(chest, ankle, wrist, etc.).
We also will work on moving safely and at different speeds. The students will be using equipment such as bean bags, scooters, different size balls, balance wands, etc. Much of the focus will be on eye/hand and eye/foot coordination.
1st & 2nd Grade
We will begin the school year working on eye/hand coordination, moving at different speeds safely, balance concepts, and locomotor activities. We be working with bean bags, scooters, balance wands, and balls.
3rd Grade
We are at the end of our soccer unit and will soon be testing the students on their dribbling skill. Our next unit will be basketball and we will work on dribbling, passing/catching, shooting, and learning the basics of playing defense.
We have just finished our first fitness test for the fall(mile run). The weather delayed us but we are finally done. Please check out the top 10 list for boys and girls. The boys and girls who did not make this list should still be proud of their effort. Everyone tried very hard and that is all I can ask. They will have a chance to improve their time in the spring. |
