We Visit Historical Ivy Green
updated March 20, 2008
Off We Go!

Our class had the opportunity to visit Ivy Green today, March 20th. This is the birthplace of Alabama's beloved Helen Keller. We began our field trip with a stop at Tuscumbia's Spring Park. The children loved the rides and it was a beautiful day. After lunch we drove over to Helen Keller's birthplace. We were so thrilled to see where this incredible lady grew up, as well as the impact she had on the world. We saw clothes that she wore, photographs of Helen at different ages, and even a letter that she had written at the age of 8. We were excited to see and touch the actual water pump that changed her life forever. We were amazed to see how close the little house was to the big house, and that she actually stayed there for 2 weeks without realizing how close she was to home. This was a field trip we will never forget!
