Popular Music in Context
Students may take this course for arts credit or as an elective social studies credit.
In this applied musical theatre course, students will engage with all aspects of performance, including singing, choreography, acting, blocking, and tech. We will select a series of music from 20th and 21st century popular music, then build a new context around the songs to reinvent their contexts. Students will do dramaturge work, and create written analyses of the selections that demonstrate this understanding. This is a heavily performance-based class; all students must be willing to sing and act in the classroom and on stage.
