This course explores important literary terms and concepts including the use of figurative language, universal themes, style, attitude, tone, and perspective in writing. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of literature that spans several centuries and produce their own writing and projects.

The driving force of this course is British and World literature. Reading selections include the epic Beowulf and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. In addition to continuing to focus on the power of important literary devices and concepts, this course pushes students toward higher levels of analytical thought and self direction via an individualized fall and spring semester project.

This is class designed for college-bound upper classmen. It involves closely analyzing non-fiction texts by using higher level research methods and collaboration with others' perspectives to create an original and provocative written response. Class activities ranch from written prompts to group discussion/debate. This is a rigorous and challenging course that requires full participation and commitment throughout the school year.
