To deepen appreciation and enjoyment of poetry. Students will identify the poetic devices and conventions that the poet uses such as internal and external punctuation, tone, mood, pt. of view,epiphany and voice.

After viewing the film Radio Flyer, students will use mapping skills to demonstrate the similarities and differences between the novel, Before Women Had Wings and the film. Students will write a comparison and contrast essay using the point by point or block method format. (For periods 2 and 5)

Objectives for the week of Oct.19-23
Period 2, 5 and 6.
Students will demonstrate use of a summarizing strategy as outlined by Robert Marzano's book Classroom Strategies That Work. Students will use the summary strategy- specifically, the Conversational Frame in which a series of questions that pertain to a specific conversation from the book are presented to the student.

Period 2 and 5- Complete the questions that covered pages 98-159 for Monday. Bring journal and book to class every day! We will continue to work on the conversational piece.

Period 6 Read ch. 8- LOF and answer the questions that relate to the ch. Complete the conversational frame questions for ch. 8. Choose a conversation between any of the characters in ch. 8. All work needs to be in your journal. Bring your journals to class and be prepared to complete another conversational piece in class.

In your journals reflect on your reading by assuming the tasks of a literary luminary, illustrator, vocabulary enhancer, discussion leader, and summarizer. You must complete all of the mentioned parts.
Period 6: Read Ch. 7 Long Shadows and Tall Trees.
Consider the appearance in ch. 6 of the dead parachutist. Why did Golding included him in the chapter entitled, Beast from the Air? In your journal reflect on ch. 7 by playing the key roles involved in productive group discussions. All of the roles must be completed. You are the discussion leader, the illustrator, the literary luminary, the vocabulary enhance (not dictionaries,please. Use the content of the sentences).
