WELCOME BACK!! We hope that you all had a very restful and fun Spring Break. Now, it’s back to work for the remaining few weeks of school. It is hard to believe that we have only 11 weeks of school left and SO much more to learn. Please make sure to keep up with the special accouncement s that I will be adding to the bottom of the webpage. There are some very important dates coming up, including one for those ECSE preschool students who will be of school age (5 years old) by September 30th 2008 - Kindergarten Registration. Other announcements will include upcoming field trip information and other “End of the Year” notifications.
Now, let’s get back to work. For the next three weeks Room 8 will become Old MacDonald’s Farm, minus the live animals, of course. The children are going to learn all about what happens on a farm. We’ll talk a lot about well known two and four legged farm inhabitants: what they eat, where they live, names for baby animals and the sounds they make. We’ll get to know the farmer and the many jobs that he/she does every day. We’ll learn about some of the products (eggs, milk and vegetables) that come from a farm that we might eat. During these three weeks the children will be working regularly with several basic concepts: numbers, shapes, colors, letter sounds, sorting, and patterning and location words. It is amazing what we can learn when we make a visit to a farm.
Don’t forget that we will still be working on a Letter of the Week”
This week will be the Letter “L” Show and Tell will continue to be on Friday and I am rooting for the PM class to have 100% participation very soon. The search for an object to bring into class for Show and Tell can be a great way to spend a few minutes with your child, reviewing the letter, its’ sound(s) and the words that we have been presented in class. At the end of the year each child will be bringing home a wonderful alphabet book that they have made over the course of the year.
