As you can see by the gentle, green giants that are visiting our Webpage, the dinosaurs are back!! (If only for 2 weeks) We are going to have so much fun in the classroom during this thematic lesson. It is truly amazing what my past students were able to take away from what I presented to them on this subject. I hope that we will all be pleasantly surprised this year too. DINOSAURS are always a crowd pleaser!
We will talk about the four DINO "Biggies" T-Rex, Apatosaurus (To us oldsters - Brontosaurus), Stegosaurus and Triceratops. We will also touch on that winged favorite, Pteradon!
I have a wide and wonderful collection of dinosaur themed books and we'll be reading many of them. We'll also just be looking at a lot of pictures of what dinosaurs may have looked liked. Again, I am asking for volunteer readers to come in and share a book with the children. I will be sending home more information on this when we return to school on Tuesday. We'd love to have as many parents and relatives come in as possible. We hope to see many of you!!!
As far as activities that we’ll be working on, we’ll be taking a walk through a prehistoric forest searching for the skeleton of a T-Rex. We are hoping to be able to find one! We’ll color a book with some very friendly dinosaurs and later in the week make a nest with some eggs. The second week of this theme will also be fun and exciting. We’ll start to work on our very own nest of dinosaur eggs that we’ll hatch on Friday!!! This is always the highlight of this theme. Weather permitting; we’ll view the hatching out on the playground. The children always enjoy this activity. By the end of the two week lesson, the hallway outside the classroom will have become a dinosaur wonderland!
In addition to the DINOSAURS, we’ll also continue working on the Letter of the Week.” We’ll be working on letter “G” this week. Please remember to use the target vocabulary at home as reinforcement and don’t’ forget “Show and Tell” on Friday. The AM class had 100% participation last week and we did very well in the PM class, too. Thanks parents for making this an important part of your child’s week.
Here’s to another exciting week in Room 8!!!!
