Welcome to Preschool! Get to Know Your Teachers and Some Information About The Class.
Mrs. Carey and I hope that you all had a relaxing and fun summer. We are very excited about the new school year. My name is Lisa Weers and this will be my fourth year teaching Early Childhood Special Education at Landstown Elementary. I am a graduate of Norfolk State University. I have been married to my husband for 32 years and we have two grown sons, one wonderful daughter-in-law and two fabulous grandchildren. Our talented and dedicated classroom assistant is Mrs. Sharon Carey. Mrs. Carey is the mother of two grown children: a son, who has recently gotten married and a daughter. She has been in the classroom for 14 years. We are a hard working team and compliment each other very well.

In addition to the goals and objectives on your child's IEP, our class will be working on many of the "Foundation Blocks for Early Learning: Comprehensive Standards for Four-Year-Olds." These "Standards" include skills and concepts that are very important for a smooth transition to Kindergarten. We are going to have lots of fun and be learning in many exciting environments. As an important member of the LES family, I will be counting on parents, extended family and/or caretakers to work with your child at home as we go through the year.

I am very glad to have the opportunity to be your son or daughter's teacher and I will:
*Have important things for all class members to do everyday
*Ask all children to do things that are meaningful and functional.
*Ask every child to do things that may sometimes challenge them.
*Give them the opportunity to experience new and exciting possibilities.
*Help him or her to become the best student they can be.

Items that your child will need to bring to school to get started:

• 1” plastic 3 ring binder/notebook (empty)
• 1 box of wipes
• 1 box of tissues
• Bottle of antibacterial soap
• 1 box or bag of snack (what your child enjoys: pretzels, cereals, snack bars, or cookies – all snack items will be shared among the class)
• Plastic container of juice or juice packs or boxes
• Box of small Dixie cups
• Package of paper plates (small or large)
• Box of microwave popcorn
• Full change of clothes to be used in case of emergency – please make sure to send the correct weight of clothes for the current weather. We will change out light weight clothes as the weather changes, normally in November. (Send to school in a zip lock bag marked with child’s name)
• If your child wears pull-ups, etc. please send in a full bag or enough to last two weeks. I will make notify you via evaluation sheet when we are running short. (Send to school in a zip lock bag marked with child’s name)

Occasionally, during the year it will be necessary for me to make snack item or classroom supply requests when we run low on supplies. Those requests will be added to the webpage and will also be found on my Friday newsletter sent home with each child. We thank you in advance for these classroom contributions.

Well it is finally here, the last week of school. I know we all look forward to it for different reasons, but it is hard for me to believe that the year is over. We have one more busy and fun week...
