We Are Half Way There
I can't believe half of the year is gone already. We are really moving in room 38. I am excited to say that reports cards are done and are ready to be sent home on Friday, February 1st. Keep in mind, to reach your goal of honor roll (or even Principal's List) you must begin now!

Extra, Extra...Read All About It
Be on the look out for a new look in our Tuesday folders. A new behavior sheet is going to be introduced. I hope that you will find it easier to read and understand. I welcome your feedback.

Also, flashcards are back. Please be sure to review them nightly and sign the parents' signature sheet at least 3 times per week. I do add 5 points for signatures.

Mathematics
Beginning this quarter, we will introduce a weekly series of TEST PREP for mathematics. This is a brief "test-like" activity that will allow me to teach proper test taking strategies as well as review the skills that they are missing. I will convey the result periodically so that you can review at home.

We are entering Unit 7 soon which means an end of unit test will be coming soon. As always, a study guide will precede the actual test.

During unit 7 we are going to dive deep into fractions, probability and graphing. I am prepared to offer several fun and engaging ways to build on the prior knowledge they have already in these areas. Be sure to keep a close eye on our study links. They offer the best view of what is going on in the classroom. They are a direct reflection of that day's lesson.

Below you will find the list of key vocabulary for the upcoming unit:
Conductor
Circuit
Closed Circuit
Electricity
Electrical Energy
Electromagnet
Heat Energy
Insulators
Light Energy
Magnetism
Magnetic Field
Mechanical Energy
Open Circuit
Parallel Circuit
Series Circuit
Static Electricity

During this duration of this unit, students will be asked to perform several hands-on activities in class and prepare a project-based/research assignment on one of our electrical inventors.

Prepare for an exciting month of learning.

Into the WEST..

As we make our way across our country during this 4th grade year, we are now settling into the West.

The students are required to know the following information during this unit:
How climates and landforms of the West make this region unique?.
How do resources and people of the West make the region unique?
How is the West a region of many contrasts?
Why Hawaii and Alaska become states?
Effects of the discovery of gold in California?
Definition of the Continental Divide and the Rain Shadow.
Features of Seattle and Salt Lake City.
Tlingit culture.
Products, minerals, and industries of the West.
Mountain Ranges of the West.

As with all of the regions we've studied thus far, the following key points are also required for essential knowledge of the West:
A region has common characteristics and is different from other regions.
Different climates, landforms, and cultures exist within a region.
